Message from the Chair
The recent Federal Budget had a few points of interest for rural health with the announcement of funding for more rural based undergraduate training, to progress rural generalist training pathways and to support non-VR rural practitioners to complete College training. It is refreshing to see the lifting of the freeze for GP consult items from July 1 and for opportunities to increase the GP allied health and nursing workforce.

The PHNs will be involved in funding increased mental health care for the aged sector as well as after a suicide attempt in the years to come. There is more funding available for drug and alcohol treatment and support. It is also reassuring to see funding secured for those needing psychosocial support outside of NDIS eligibility.
