Message from the CEO
 
This week the Australian Government Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce presented A Matter of Care – Australia’s aged care workforce strategy to the Minister for Aged Care, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP. The following is a precis of the announcement made by Professor John Pollaers, the Chair of the taskforce and is good to know for our rural environs.

The strategy draws on extensive consultations with providers, consumers and the workforce, as well as research commissioned from experts in areas of workforce organisation, future industry trends and recruitment and retention.
 
The strategy is executable in the next 1-3 years and sets the industry up for the next seven. Some key actions detailed in the strategy are already underway. Improved education and training will be the focus of a new Industry Reference Committee dedicated to aged services. Read more...

SA Healthy Towns Challenge - Grants for Rural and Regional Towns
 
The SA Healthy Towns Challenge will provide grants of up to $50,000 for projects which increase health and wellbeing through the prevention of illness and/or injury. Applications should address local health and wellbeing issues.  Applications supporting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in remote and regional communities are encouraged. Five grants will be available each year for four years commencing in 2018-19. Read more...

Better Questions Workshop

The Better Questions training presented by Lindsay Tighe has now been completed with 9 successful workshops held across all CSAPHN regions, with 71 attendees. Attendees ranged from CSAPHN staff, GPs, GP Registrars, Pharmacists, Aged Care Coordinators and carers, DONs, Physiotherapists, OTs, Exercise Physiologists, Red Cross, Practice Managers, Practice Nurses and Country Health SA staff. HealthPathways South Australia – Get online today

Since going live in March 2018, general practice and other health professionals from across South Australia have been logging in to HealthPathways SA and already viewed over 14,000 pages. 

Ongoing development is continuing, with the HealthPathways SA Team continually publishing new clinical pathways and referral service information pages to the portal. New MBS rebate structure for non-vocationally recognised general practitioners from 1 July 2018
 
The Australian Government is introducing new Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item fee arrangements for non-vocationally recognised general practitioners (non-VR GPs).
 
The new arrangements will affect claims for services provided by these doctors from 1 July 2018. Read more...

National Indigenous Bowel Screening Pilot-Applications Now Open
 
Health services with Indigenous patients aged 50 to 74 are invited to take part in a National Pilot of an 'Alternative Pathway' to bowel screening in 2018 and 2019. The 'Alternative Pathway' aims to make the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) more accessible for Indigenous Australians, to increase participation in screening, and ultimately, to reduce death and disability from bowel cancer.
